Artist of the Day / Terry S. Amstutz a.k.a. mobius faith / Akron, Ohio

I’ve chosen Terry as Artist of the Day because of his beautiful work with digital images, but he is also a very interesting person who has a wonderful song category on his blog, and leaves insightful comments on other’s blogs.

‘As I wrote in my book “The photograph is the tabula rasa upon which I ‘paint’.” The photographic image is merely the beginning.’

“In many cases I honestly have not a reason for taking a shot of something aside from the fact that I just find it interesting.  Any personal meaning for me typically comes during the post processing phase.”

“If I would have merely wanted to document the time and place I live in and the people I meet I would have been a journalist. I seek to create the world I live in – not document it.

About destructivetesting

I'm a self-taught artist who prefers to use found objects in ways that were never intended. I'm not interested in making 10 or 100 of the same object. This, of course, takes more time to make each piece. I also prefer a more minimalist look, where each part of a piece can be appreciated. I consider my clocks to be small sculptures with moving parts. And, my lamps to be small sculptures with light. My mirrors are reflective sculptures. DESTRUCTIVE TESTING means to push something to it's limits to understand it's structural performance or material behavior under different stresses. I interpret this in my artwork as using materials in different ways or combinations than they were designed to be used. I also just like the slightly ominous sound of the term...
