Artist of the Day / Charlen Williamson

I seldom really enjoy abstract paintings, but Charlen’s work has a vividness and calmness and meditative quality that I find very appealing.  I’ve included the two photos of her paintings on the wall to show the general size of these.

“I love painting abstract art using deep, rich, bold, acrylic colors and incredible texture. I am fascinated by the way these vivid paint colors merge together creating unexpected colors and designs on the canvas. I never really know how a painting will turn out, as it keeps changing as I go. That’s what makes abstract art so appealing to me. It’s forever changing and evolving. I’m constantly inspired by patterns, colors, and textures that I find in everyday life; even the most random and unlikely things can become inspirations for a painting.”

About destructivetesting

I'm a self-taught artist who prefers to use found objects in ways that were never intended. I'm not interested in making 10 or 100 of the same object. This, of course, takes more time to make each piece. I also prefer a more minimalist look, where each part of a piece can be appreciated. I consider my clocks to be small sculptures with moving parts. And, my lamps to be small sculptures with light. My mirrors are reflective sculptures. DESTRUCTIVE TESTING means to push something to it's limits to understand it's structural performance or material behavior under different stresses. I interpret this in my artwork as using materials in different ways or combinations than they were designed to be used. I also just like the slightly ominous sound of the term...
